It's cold, snowy, and I have to shovel AGAIN! It takes no less than 40 minutes to bundle all the children, to play outside for 10 minutes!
I cannot wait, to just open the back door, and shoo them outback...shoes optional! ;)

And to smell the laundry, drying in the sun...ahhhhh!

The diaper started out as a regular-sized, 100% cotton, Diaper-service-quality Chinese prefold. I trimmed the sides, added elastic, and embellished the outside with super-cute snowman fabric! Safety Diaper pins are included!

The matching waterproof cover is lined with 1mm PUL (poly-urethane laminate) and covered with same fabric! The cover fastens with velcro.

Both items are machine washable/dryer safe!

This Diaper/Cover Combo are size "med"..fits aprox 15-25 pounds, depending on child's build.

A Little Bit of Heaven; Revisited

We're Ba-a-ack!
Remember that Magical Place that I

Well, my daughter and I
went back there, last week...
Just as breath-taking
Just as surreal
Just as peaceful
(Just as many spiders, too!)
But thanks to a healthy rainy season,
much more rushing water, this year.
We hiked down the steep incline, and stepped across
slippery rocks,
Just to experience
A Little Bit of Heaven, again

We descended directly to the right of
the moss-covered stone "bridge"

there's a hunting cabin, a picnic shelter, a swingset
a sandbox,
and a half of a modular home, that has been converted into another
cabin.
the kids call it:
"Grandpa's Half-way House"

Here, they fish, swim, boat, catch frogs, and yes,
the occasional water snake sends everyone to shore!

Last Summer, a couple of beavers moved in... but grandpa took care of 'em
(Don't ask what he's cooking in those crockpots in the breezeway! ha ha ha)

I grabbed my guitar, and headed out back for a "photo-shoot" (my daughter is the photographer, here) and no less than 7 small children, including the neighbor kids came running over for "song time", ha ha ha

A Day At the Zoo

Just before school let out this year, I was asked to chaperone the 4th grade class to the Toronto Zoo. What a great place! There was alot of walking, but the boys I was in charge of were able to keep up with me ;)

My kids love to swing, doesn't matter on what...a rope, a tire, or on one of the swing sets out back
They squeal with delight, "Push me HIGHER, Mama, I want to fly to the MOON!"
I always ask them to get me some cheese while they're there...
That *is* what the moon's made of, right?

You can lead a boy to water, but you can't make him bathe!
This is my youngest, sailing a little wooden boat in a trough. Simple things bring such joy and hours of amusement...you just can't buy the smile that a puddle of water can bring...or a steep grassy hill to roll down!
It wasn't all that long ago, that laying in the grass, and watching the clouds float by seemed like a perfect afternoon activity...try it sometime, whether you're 10, or 110, you won't be disappointed!

The Boys of Summer

The smell of leather from a well oiled glove, the dust from the ground, used as hand powder, the crack of the bat, the thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat...it's baseball season and my oldest son is the picture of Americana.
When not on the field, he can often be found practicing catching pop flies in the back yard, batting into the tree line, or running the bases...you can see it on his face, he can even here the roar of the imaginary crowd in his ears...Ahh, his first love...baseball (or is it hockey? Stay tuned!!)

We recently "rescued" a painted turtle from certain death on the highway... thus far, he's none too grateful...he he he. He'll live out the summer in a 55 gallon aquarium in our barn, then we'll release him in the swamp when it's time to hibernate.

Cloth Alternative to Pull-ups

A customer recently visited my shop, and asked if I could make some newborn diapers for her friend's baby shower. "Sure!" I said. Then the customer asked if I could make them so that they would fit for a long time, as newborns tend to outgrow everything they wear in the first 2 weeks. Hmmm excellent point..."Let me see what I can do"
So after fooling around with paper and pencil and ruler, I came up with a diaper that adjusts with snaps, to fit a tiny newborn hiney, as well as a chunky 18 pounder! The adjustable covers, were the next logical step! :o)

The Con-Fold™ is BORN!!!!

Introducing, the Fabulous New Con-Fold™ Diaper!!

What's a Con-Fold™? Well, it's half contour, half prefold, of course!! After being very frustrated with "losing" the front half of traditional contours in the cover (bunches up and slips down), I decided to make a better one! I really like the simplicity of prefolds,but folding and putting it on a squirmy baby, can prove quite a challenge!
With my new design, I am able to quickly lay the diaper on a cover, tuck in the sides(between the legs), pull up, spread out over the belly, and fasten the cover...DONE! No tri-folding or wrestling with Baby! And, unlike traditional lay-in contours, there is less chance of slipping/shifting (and leaks!)
The center soaker is 8 layers of trim, but absorbent, birdseye cotton, that starts/stops 2 inches from either end, to avoid extra bulk, when folding down to fit smaller babies! The outer layers are super soft, premium quality cotton flannel, for maximum comfort, absorbency and a trim fit!
The center of the soaker is quilted, to "channel" or draw in messes. This, paired with folding over the side edges, helps keep waste IN the diaper, and not on the cover!

This diaper is comparable in size to a "Regular CPF", measuring 17 inches x 12 inches (8 inches at narrowist point) and will fit from a size "small", to "toddler"!

Haven't posted in quite awhile! Once the school year started again, so did all the activities and sports! We have 2 in hockey, 1 in soccer, 1 in Cub Scouts, teenager in Driver's Ed, School Play, and Swim, and 2 at home! WHEW! Add to that Church, keeping up with maintaining a household, and babysitting 2 extra kids.....well, you can see why I've been MIA!

6 WEIRD THINGS~~I've been tagged!!
THE RULES: Each player of this game starts with the 6 weird things about yourself. People who get tagged need to write on their own blog their own 6 weird things as well as state this rule clearly. Wierd things about me:

1~ I'm with Jodi....LOVE my kids, but by the end of the day, I'm a bit "touched out"..my nearly 12 month old is still nursing several times per day, and by bedtime, I'm ready for an hour to myself! :oP
2~I can't sit still for very long...I'm a bit hyper and always running hither and yon!
3~ I sometimes speak "Mother-ese" even when there are no babies around! (been a mom for 17 years, now, some habits are hard to break!)
4~AND, I'll holler, "Look at the horsey!" when there are no kids in the car! (see above for explanation! he he he)
5~I get "weirded" out over meat....I'm *not* a vegetarian, but sometimes I can't eat meat, if I saw it prepared (or prepared it myself!)
6~I LOVE to sing, which I do...LOUDLY and OFTEN, although my kids say I sound like a frog croaking! :o/

I Made a Lightbox for Under $10!!

I bought 3 pieces of white foam core poster board for $2.68 each, and 1 sheet of white poster paper for $.58, I already had the packing tape!

Then, I taped the 3 foam core boards together, creating a 3-sided "box" (place tape on outside corners)

I placed my "box" on top of the poster paper, (paper was a bit too small, but I made it work, for now!)

I used a desk lamp as my light source for the first pic, and natural light for the second...note to self, "Do NOT use yellow bulbs!!!"

Final results are amazing, I just need to invest in that new bulb for my lamp, or take my box outside! This folds flat for storage, too! ;o)

The red/white floral is a soft, cotton pique, the solid green/ green batik is also 100% cotton, as well as the train/stripe fabric.
The 2 black/print fabrics are a stretch twill (96% cotton/4%lycra) and have no solid fabric for reverse side (the sling will look the same on both sides, LOL)***NEW*** Fish pattern with deep green!Still 100% cotton! This is a custom order for cloth diaper covers, they are made of a soft knit material that has been laminated, to be waterproof! (the laminate never touches your child, it is between layers of knit fabric) This makes for a feather light cover, that eliminates 1/2 the bulk of wearing cloth dipes with wool or fleece covers! So trim, you can't even tell baby is wearing a cloth dipe, under his clothes!

~ I even did the "nap" test, I added a soaker layer to his dipe, for extra absorbancy, while sleeping, and Elijah woke up with NO LEAKS!! I never thought I'd prefer PUL over natural fibers, but I'm SOLD! This is the best diaper cover EVER! I can make sizes preemie, on up to toddler(XL) just leave me your email addy in "comments" or log into Etsy, and click on "Contact Georganne" (in my shop), with questions/orders!

~ Colors availble right now; red, blue, sage green, and butter yellow (not shown)

**ALSO NEW** and not listed yet, All Natural Laundry Soap, made from simple, yet effective cleaning agents that are safe for all colors, washable fabrics, and machines! Works great in front loaders, as this soap does NOT have suds! A small amout goes a LONG way, needing only 1 TBSP for a reg size load! This batch has added essential oils of lavender and tea tree, for a great scent and anti-bacterial/fungal properties!

On Friday, May 11, and Sat, May 12, I will be at the MotherTime MarketPlace at Batavia Downs with alot of great things for Babies and Kids! Shelly's Creations has some gorgeous eyelet baby bonnets, super-hero capes, and a "Dorothy" from Wizard of Oz, blue gingham dress! There will also be an entire section of gently used childrens clothing, toys, and furniture! A little bird told me that there will be a wooden train table, complete with storage bins for sale! It appears that my most popular item, thus far, is my "Honey Buns" all natural diaper salve! It is made from quality ingredients, shown to calm, soothe, protect, and heal minor skin irritation. It also smells wonderful!
~ I am currently working on more Lovey Quilts with ribbon tags on all borders, as my children are quite fond of them! I will be selling these Lovey's at the MotherTime Marketplace, on Mother's day weekend, along with the Honey Buns, some wraps (baby carriers), a couple of larger quilts, and some really great toddler jackets (made by my Aunt Lisa) My sister-in-law will be joining me, and is selling children's dress up costumes (I know she has at least one Dorothy, from Wizard of Oz, and some super hero capes!)
